John
John Haldane joined the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues in January 2021 as Professor of Virtue Theory and works with the research team to guide the Centre’s research in the areas of moral philosophy and virtue theory. He has held a Chair in Moral Philosophy at the University of St Andrews for the last 25 years, where he led the pioneering Centre for Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs for over 20 years and remains its Senior Fellow. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, was Chair of the Council of the Royal Institute of Philosophy from 2010 to 2020, and has been awarded honorary degrees by universities in Britain, the United States and Australia. He was recently the Newton Rayzor Sr. Distinguished Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at Baylor University, where he continues as Distinguished Affiliate Professor. He has delivered several prominent lecture series at Aberdeen (Giffords), Cambridge (Stantons), Gregorian (Josephs) and Oxford Universities and is editor of St Andrews Studies in Philosophy and Public Affairs. His work to date has focused upon central issues in philosophy of mind; the history of philosophy; theoretical and normative issues in social and political philosophy, ethics and aesthetics; and artistic, educational, and theological issues.
